Old Yerevan Development Program Coordination Task Force Holds Meeting

On September 23, 2020, the Old Yerevan Development Program Coordination Task Force held its first meeting, chaired by Varag Siseryan, Head of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan. Addressing the meeting, Varag Siseryan said:

“Dear colleagues,

Today we are holding the first meeting of the Old Yerevan Development Program Coordination Task Force.

The Old Yerevan project a key component in the capital city’s sustainable development program in terms of both urban development and the preservation of historical-cultural assets. The project seeks to boost construction in Yerevan, while preserving the downtown’s flavor, historical and cultural environment.

Active implementation work is currently underway. 47 of about 150 targeted real estate facilities are subject to alienation. We are taking stock of and dealing with the problems related to sales and construction processes on a daily basis.

Since 2018, there has been a positive shift in both sales and construction, in particular, the amount of compensation provided to residents has increased. The possibility of involving a state or local authority in the implementation process is being discussed at this stage, which will help increase the program’s efficiency.

The project’s complex nature has aroused a number of problems, in particular, issues related to land alienation, construction permits, etc. We will take stock of all such problems and try to find appropriate solutions.”

The representatives of different government departments participating in the meeting reported on the sale of plots of land, design and construction activities. Reference was made to the problems identified during the implementation stage. The next steps to be taken by the Task Force were outlined during the meeting.
