Mher Grigoryan Receives IMF Armenia Mission Head

Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan received newly appointed Head of International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Armenia Mission Nathan Porter. The meeting was attended by IMF Resident Representative Yulia Ustyugova.

Welcoming Mr. Porter to Armenia, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed hope that he would leave our country with good and positive impressions.

Mher Grigoryan appreciated Armenia’s cooperation with the IMF, noting that as approved in May this year, the joint action plan is consistent with the logic of the reforms proposed by the government. The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that in addition to giving a financial component, the activities related to tax administration and the fiscal system imply more global strategies.

Thankful for the warm welcome, Nathan Porter hailed the consultative meetings held with various government departments during the mission’s visit. Stressing that the Government’s willingness to implement drastic reforms is obvious, he assured of the Fund’s readiness to promote this important process. According to the Head of the IMF Mission, the proposed joint programs may create challenges for Armenia, but at the same time they will help implement important and multifaceted reforms.

The parties discussed the process of developing per-sector strategies. Nathan Porter praised the State Revenue Committee’s strategy in this field. Reference was made to the reforms underway in the field of real estate taxation, public investment management, the Law “On Public-Private Partnership, as well as to the importance of developing the capital market in Armenia.
