Mher Grigoryan Receives U.S. Ambassador

Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan received U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Lynne Tracy. Vice Ambassador Christopher Smith and USAID Armenia Mission Director Deborah Grieser were in attendance.

Welcoming the guests, the Deputy Premier thanked the U.S. Government for assistance provided with the ongoing reforms in Armenia. Mher Grigoryan hailed the cooperation with USAID which proceeds in a constructive atmosphere. He stressed the need for having USAID experts involved in the development of per-sector strategies.

Thankful for the reception, Ambassador Lynne Tracy said: “The U.S. government supports Armenia’s democratic and economic reforms, anti-corruption agenda, and contributions to regional security. With this year’s 40% increase in U.S. assistance funding, we are committed to helping implement programs in response to reform priorities the Armenian government has established.”

The meeting next focused on the proposed judiciary and police system reforms. Reference was made to existing problems and the need for implementing an ideological reform in addition to the material component.
