Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan Reviews Prospects of Bilateral Cooperation with Swedish Delegation

Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan received Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDCA) representatives, led by Sweden’s Ambassador to Armenia Ulrik Tidestrom.

Greeting the guests, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the Swedish side’s readiness to develop cooperation with Armenia. Mher Grigoryan said any opportunity to develop partnership ties with Sweden would be appreciated by the Armenian Government. Regarding the ongoing cooperation with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, the Deputy Prime Minister briefed the guests on the Government’s priorities and the reforms underway in the country. Mher Grigoryan conveyed his belief that the judicial reforms and the measures aimed at strengthening and developing democratic institutions are of primary importance.

Thankful for the reception, Ambassador Ulrik Tidestrom appreciated the comprehensive presentation of the Government’s priorities. The Ambassador gave the floor to Deputy Director of SIDCA Europe and Latin America Department Christina Hartler, who outlined the Agency’s goals and the three main areas of assistance programs - environmental protection, democracy and economic development.

The Deputy Prime Minister dwelt on the problems faced in the aforementioned three areas and the planned reforms, in the frame of which bilateral cooperation could be developed with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. In this context, Mher Grigoryan highlighted the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and went on to inform that a roadmap for CEPA implementation will soon be approved. He thanked the Swedish authorities for CEPA ratification.

While exchanging views on Armenia’s development strategy, the interlocutors stressed the importance of digitization. The parties next talked about the possibilities and prospects of developing Armenian-Swedish cooperation. They expressed the hope that today’s meeting would be another important step for the furtherance of bilateral relations.
