Today RA Prime Minister A. Margaryan has received the delegation headed by Mr. Boris Grizlov, Speaker of the Russian Federation's State Duma.

Before proceeding to the discussion, the Prime Minister felicitated the guest on his birthday by wishing him robust health and every success in political activities and private life.

With reference to the cooperation between Armenia and Russia, Mr. A. Margaryan stressed the importance of high-level contacts in respect of further strengthening and developing bilateral relationship. For his part, Mr. Grizlov evoked with satisfaction the positive outcome of the meetings held during the first official visit of the Head of the Armenian Government to the Russian Federation in July 2004. Both sides agreed that the existing cooperation between the two governments would have been very hard to sustain if not assisted by parliamentarians from the two sides and expressed the hope that any joint efforts by the governments would enjoy full support with the legislators in future, too.

Pointing out to the recent reanimation of economic exchanges between Armenia and Russia and the tangible activation of the Armenian-Russian interparliamentarian commission, Mr. Margaryan and Mr. Grizlov expressed their satisfaction with the fact that the commission kept backing the joint efforts of the two governments aimed at boosting bilateral economic cooperation. At the same time, it was stressed that many possibilities were still going unavailed. A special focus was placed upon the improvement of the state of affairs in the field of transport communications. Mr. Grizlov emphasized that the Russian side was working actively on Armenia's involvement in the North-South international transport corridor, the re-opening of Caucasus-Poti transit ferryway, the re-commissioning of the Abkhazian stretch of railway as all of them were economically advantageous for both Armenia and Russia. With reference to Armenia's involvement in regional economic and transportation projects, Mr. A. Margaryan noted that Armenia was looking forward to be supported by Russian parliamentarians in de-blockading Armenia, re-opening the Armenian-Turkish border, re-commissioning the Tbilisi-Gyumri-Kars railway and in other matters of vital interest to our country.

At the meeting, the parties have also touched upon the progress in the fulfillment of reciprocal commitments assumed under the Property for Debt program. On either side, a keen interest was evidenced for the re-commissionning of the Armenian enterprises handed over to Russia. The parties discussed the possibility of deepening the existing collaboration in small and medium-size entrepreneurship by stressing that an important contribution in this matter could be made by the Russian-Armenian Association for Business Cooperation.

Mr. Andranik Margaryan and Mr. Boris Grizlov stressed the necessity of establishing closer ties of cooperation between individual administrative units of the two countries. The head of the Armenian government indicated that quite good relationship had already been established between a number of Russian and Armenian regional administrations, including Yerevan and Moscow, in particular. In this respect, the Prime Minister said to be satisfied with the outcome of Mayor Luzhkov's recent visit to Armenia.

In closing, Mr. A. Margaryan and Mr. B. Grizlov once again assured each other of the willingness on the part of respective authorities to enhance and further expand cooperation between Armenia and Russia in all the fields of mutual interest.
