Armenia-Iran Economic Cooperation Agenda Discussed

Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received a delegation led by the Minister of Agriculture of Iran Mahmoud Hojjati.

The Prime Minister noted the importance of developing economic cooperation with Iran, adding that this could be facilitated by implementing joint investment programs in the field of agriculture, which may also stimulate the growth of trade turnover. Karen Karapetyan stressed that the involvement of Iranian capital in the free economic zone to be created in Meghri would give a new impetus to the expansion and deepening of bilateral economic ties.

The Premier assured that his government is ready to provide Iranian businessmen with the necessary assistance for the development of business activities in the country. Karen Karapetyan expressed confidence that this would give the Iranian side the opportunity to enter the EEU market on favorable conditions, as well as the European market mediating the GSP + regime.

Thankful for the reception, Mahmoud Hojjati conveyed warm greetings on behalf of Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri. He attached great importance to the further development of economic cooperation between the two countries, noting that their economic opportunities should compliment each other to stimulate the growth of trade turnover. The Iranian Minister expressed satisfaction with the results of the meetings held with Armenian partners.

The parties took the opportunity to discuss issues related to the establishment of an Iranian bureau of quality assessment in Armenia, an export-import company, the implementation of joint projects in fishing industry, as well as the possibility of creating a tomato processing factory in Armenia.
