PM Receives IT Industry Representatives

Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received members of the Union of IT Enterprises (UITE) and the Union of Employers of Information and Communication Technologies (UEICT).

Mindful of Armenia’s IT potential, the Prime Minister said to be looking forward to hearing about the steps the IT enterprises expected from his government in terms of contributing to the formation of a competitive IT sector and implementing effective long-term programs.

After introducing the ongoing projects and the existing bottlenecks, the guests came up with a number of proposals, including the possibility of organizing entrepreneurship courses in general and higher educational institutions, setting up groups of engineering activities and founding a technological university. They dwelt on the need to streamline the legislative framework, and discussed other issues of topical interest.

Stressing the importance of developing a technology-oriented educational system, the Premier said special attention is to be paid to access to education and training in the provinces. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of the IT sector to the development of various sectors of the economy, adding that it could be a driving force in terms of providing effective resources for the country’s progress.

Karen Karapetyan urged the guests to forward to relevant government agencies the ideas and suggestions voiced at the meeting and instructed the ministers concerned to actively cooperate with the IT sector.
