Prime Minister Meets Eurasian Economic Commission Board Chairman

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan received Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Tigran Sargsyan.

Congratulating Tigran Sargsyan on appointment as EEC Board Chairman, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that he would use his knowledge and experience to develop the economies of EEU-member States. The Premier expressed concern over the unjustified transfer of the EEU Intergovernmental Council’s meeting that was due on April 8 in Yerevan, stressing the importance of taking such constructive steps as may help further strengthen the Eurasian Economic Union.

Thankful for the reception, the EEC Board Chairman appreciated the opportunity to discuss Eurasian Economic Union’s priorities and development objectives. Tigran Sargsyan noted that Armenia’s position and approaches might help his organization move forward, taking into account the common interests, and especially the similarity of countries, which will contribute to the development of the economies of EEU-member nations and create favorable conditions for the business environment. Tigran Sargsyan assured that the EEU would make every effort to achieve success in these areas and stressed the importance of Armenian government’s support in this matter.

Tigran Sargsyan hailed the prompt response of the Armenian government to the issue of exempting natural persons from VAT when importing motorcars from EEU-member countries, stressing that the national legislation has thereby been harmonized with the transnational regulations applicable in the EEU.

At the meeting, Hovik Abrahamyan referred to the issue of return of VAT for Armenian exports toward EEU-member countries, given the presence of the boundary. He noted that this question has been repeatedly raised by the representatives of business circles in Armenia. Tigran Sargsyan said the Commission is considering the issue. Taking into account the wishes of the Armenian side, the matter will be given extra attention.
