PM introduces newly appointed minister to Energy and Natural Resources Ministry staff


Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan introduced today to the staff of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia newly appointed Minister Levon Eolyan.

The Premier thanked Yervand Zakharyan, the former Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, for collaboration, praised his efforts and said that the Ministry had performed large-scale work under the leadership of Mr. Zakharyan.

According to the Head of Government, the energy sector is facing some problems, though the ways and foundations for giving them a solution have been laid successfully. The Prime Minister noted that over the past two years numerous programs and reforms were carried out, important initiatives embodied in life, and the Ministry actively cooperated with partners from Iran, Russia, Georgia and other countries.

Hovik Abrahamyan went on to congratulate Levon Eolyan on his appointment as Minister and wished him fruitful work, expressing confidence that under his leadership, all the activities and programs would be continuously and effectively implemented.

Yervand Zakaryan thanked the Prime Minister for appreciation of his work and said that over the last two years there was carried out extensive work in the system aimed at financial recovery and sustainability of the energy system. According to him, there was also carried out serious work towards the reduction of losses, and as of this point system losses fell by two per cent. During this period, a strategic program was developed, referred to as “Ways of long-term (up to 2036) development of the energy system of Armenia,” which was approved by the Government of the Republic of Armenia.

Yervand Zakaryan also noted the importance of maintaining the energy balance, for which a new methodology has been developed. He said that the system in the context of the last 7 months recorded a positive balance in the amount of about 3.5 billion drams instead recorded in the past few years, the damage that has formed in the electric networks of Armenia. According to him, it launched several major programs, including life extension program of the Armenian nuclear power plant, the construction of a third high-voltage transmission line Armenia-Iran, and soon will be a competition for the construction of high voltage transmission line Armenia-Georgia in the energy sector.

Yervand Zakaryan noted that all the system work carried out with the support of the President of the Republic of Armenia, were kept in the center of his attention, as well as with the daily assistance to the Prime Minister.

Yervand Zakaryan congratulated the newly appointed Minister Levon Eolyan and expressed confidence that thanks to his experience and high professionalism all the programs will be implemented successfully and the problems will be solved.

In turn, Levon Eolyan thanked the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister for confidence and noted that it is a great responsibility for him.

The newly appointed Minister noted that energy and natural resources are of strategic importance to Armenia, and expressed confidence that strong with the great professional potential unit of the Ministry, he might fulfill the tasks assigned to them by the country’s leadership.
