Prime Minister Chairs Meeting on Mining Sector Development






Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan chaired today a consultative meeting on the development of mining sector in Armenia, attended by executives and representatives of mining companies.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Economy Karen Chshmarityan, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Yervand Zakharyan, Deputy Minister of Finance Armen Alaverdyan, as well as representatives of relevant government departments.

To begin with, the Minister of Economy briefed those present on the current trends in the global mining industry and market developments in the prices of non-ferrous metals. Karen Chshmarityan pointed out that as a major player in Armenia’s economy, the mining sector boasted a tangible growth this year, promoted by increased investment and output capacity.

The meeting went on to discuss issues related to the development of domestic mining companies, new investment programs, emerging challenges and fluctuations in international market prices of non-ferrous metals. A number of proposals and recommendations were voiced during the meeting.

Highlighting the key role played by the mining industry in our country’s economic development, the Prime Minister noted that the given sector is a matter of daily concern. The Prime Minister stressed that the Government is ready to support the sector and discuss any problems and concern.

The Premier told the relevant government agencies to keep in touch with the executives of stakeholder enterprises, take note of their proposals, review and take appropriate steps to implement them. The executives in attendance thanked the Premier for audience and in-depth consideration of their concerns.
