Government Provides Incentives for Job Creation

A regular Cabinet meeting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

The meeting approved a procedure for implementing a pilot program of remunerated social work in Tavush Marz as part of the Government’s initiative to provide temporary jobs to unemployed citizens. Tavush Marz was selected due to the high rate of unemployment above the national average, large number of borderline communities and numerous material losses caused to local households during the latest military operations.

The Prime Minister noted that this is another step toward mitigating the social tension in border villages of Tavush Marz by providing temporary employment to the unemployed. Hovik Abrahamyan assured that the program would be continued, if successful.

AMD 49 million will be earmarked from the Government’s reserve fund to the Ministry of Economy to ensure the settlement of the required deposit for hosting the World Information Technology Forum in 2019. The global IT forum is a major international event, which will facilitate cooperation with international organizations and leading IT companies, raise awareness of Armenia’s IT potential, achievements and local companies’ products, innovative solutions and services, expand sales markets and attract foreign investment.

The forum’s previous editions were held in Canada, the Netherlands, Malaysia, USA, Greece, Australia, China, Spain, Japan, England, France, Denmark and Mexico.

Highlighting the importance of hosting the global IT forum, the Premier expressed confidence that it would lead to positive results for our country.

The Government adopted a decision to provide for smooth implementation of the transfer of lease of water systems and other property owned and maintained by Yerevan Water, Armenia Water and Sewerage, Lori Water and Sewerage, Shirak Water and Sewerage and Nor Akunq closed joint stock companies.

The management and lease contracts signed with the aforementioned companies are expiring on May 31, 2016, and it is proposed to extend them by a period of 6 months. It was likewise suggested defining the pre-qualification terms and conditions for future bidders. Thus, necessary conditions are being provided for organizations to participate in the competition, drawing up the list of participants and ensuring smooth tender proceedings.

In conclusion, the meeting decided that those foreign country-based MSIIR (Moscow State Institute of International Relations) graduates due in Armenia for attendance of the third international alumni conference will be exempted from payment of entry visa-related State duties. The conference will be held on October 22-24, 2015.
