PM Abrahamyan Meets with PRC State Council Member, Deputy Prime Minister Wang Yong

On the margins of the Eurasian Economic Forum, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan met today with PRC State Council Member, Deputy Prime Minister Wang Yong.

Hovik Abrahamyan first expressed his gratitude for the invitation to attend the Eurasian Economic Forum in Xi’an. “It was a great pleasure for me to accept the invitation considering Armenia’s serious interest in the rehabilitation of the Great Silk Road,” Hovik Abrahamyan noted. According to the Prime Minister, China is a key partner for Armenia, and the Armenian-Chinese relations are deeply rooted in history, going back to the times when the Silk Road was still existent.

“I want to note that a high-level political dialogue has been developing between Armenia and China in recent years as evidenced by President Serzh Sargsyan’s State visit to China in the month of March and the talks held with PRC President Xi Jinping, as well as my meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang two days ago. Contacts of this kind are sure to deepen the ties of friendship between our two countries,” the Armenian Prime Minister said. Hovik Abrahamyan emphasized that his government is actively engaged in the implementation of the arrangement reached during the meeting of the Heads of State of Armenia and China.

Prime Minister Abrahamyan highlighted the Chinese side’s initiative to create the Silk Road Economic Zone, which will have an important impact on the economic development of the entire region.

Highly appreciative of PM Hovik Abrahamyan’s participation in the forum, PRC State Councilor, Deputy Prime Minister Wang Yong said China is interested in the strengthening of cooperation with Armenia in different sectors. He assured of China’s readiness to support Armenia’s economic development. In his words, the recent years’ high-level political contacts foster the development of both economic and political relations between the two nations.

Pleased with the tangible increase in bilateral trade, the Deputy Prime Minister of China expressed the hope that the Silk Road Economic Zone might propel economic development in the Eurasian region. During the meeting, the parties touched upon other issues of mutual interest, emphasizing the importance of closer interaction within international organizations.

Later today, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan’s delegation was back to Yerevan.
