PM Abrahamyan Receives EU Committee of Regions President Markku Markkula



Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan received a delegation headed by President of the European Committee of the Regions of the European Union Markku Markkula.

Stressing the importance of the Yerevan-hosted meeting and conference of Eastern Partnership Bureau of Regional and Local Authorities, Hovik Abrahamyan expressed confidence that it would contribute to the expansion and deepening of cooperation between the local self-government authorities of Armenia and EU-member countries.

The Premier pointed out that the development of local self-government is among his Cabinet’s priorities, adding that the EU experience in this field might be useful to our country. Noting that the EU is a key partner for Armenia, Hovik Abrahamyan said our country is prepared to push forward bilateral cooperation in all fields of mutual interest.

Thankful for hosting in Yerevan the meeting and conference of Eastern Partnership Bureau of Regional and Local Authorities, Markku Markkula presented details of cooperation between the local governments of EU-member States and Eastern Partnership countries and the results of the discussions held in Yerevan.

In this context, Markku Markkula advised that the forums had discussed issues related to the development of economic growth, creation of new jobs and promotion of entrepreneurship.

Appreciating the ongoing cooperation, Prime Minister Abrahamyan expressed the hope that it would contribute to the advancement of local government in Armenia, which is instrumental in propelling overall progress in the country.
