IT Development Support Council Holds Meeting

Chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, a regular meeting of the IT Development Support Council (ITDSC) was held today in the Office of Government. The Council first heard a progress report on the status of the assignments issued at the previous meeting.

Proceeding to the agenda, the ITDSC looked into Armenia’s new technology-based economic opportunities and the long-term and short-term development vectors. In particular, discussed were issues relating to targeted research-oriented education at schools and universities, technological development in Marzes, involvement of transnational corporations, infrastructure development, as well as the improvement of the business environment.

Summing up the discussion, the Prime Minister suggested redirecting the proposals to the Ministry of Economy in order to include them in the IT development strategy and supplement with new innovative ideas.

The meeting next discussed the National Instrument Co-proposed construction of an engineering campus in Jrvezh District of Yerevan. The project is supposed to promote the quantitative and qualitative growth of startup companies in the IT sector. The project aims to set up modern infrastructure in order to stimulate investment in the engineering sector and promote the search of technological solutions to complex problems in the international market.

Welcoming the idea of establishing an engineering campus in Yerevan, Prime Minister Abrahamyan instructed Minister of Economy Karen Chshmarityan to discuss the projects’ details with the representatives of National Instruments.
