Hovik Abrahamyan visits Lori Marz

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan paid a working visit to Lori Marz. The Premier first called at Agro-Holding Armenia farm in Spitak where the Head of Government was briefed on its activities and programs. Agro-Holding Armenia is going to get 400 more milk cows to take to 500 the total number of livestock. The Company’s output is currently consumed only in Armenia. Work is underway to master new sales markets.

Gloria clothing factory was the Premier’s next port of call. Hovik Abrahamyan toured the factory getting acquainted with the products, programs and challenges. The Company is cooperating with Italian Sartis Company. Strong with German and Japanese cutting-edge equipment, Gloria produces suits marketed by well-known global brands.

Neatly 700 thousand jackets are annually exported to Germany and Italy. Work is underway to launch the production of premium-quality jeans in collaboration with Italian Dizel Company.

Hovik Abrahamyan offered the Government’s financial support in order to advance the proposed development projects. In turn, the management of the factory promised to create additional 200 new jobs. Note that some 1300 people are currently employed in Gloria.

“While Vanadzor used to be a major industrial town, none of its former enterprises is operational today safe Gloria. An arrangement has been reached with Gloria’s management that the Government will provide financial assistance to the extent of AMD450 million that can result in 200 new jobs,” Hovik Abrahamyan told reporters.

The Prime Minister also visited the former site of the Vanadzor cableway. Hovik Abrahamyan was briefed on the programs and problems related to the re-commissioning. The new aerial tramway is expected to be as long as 1450 meters and have a ski run of 2,500 meters.

The Premier asked to submit an investment program for the re-launch of the cableway in order to take it up with possible investors. The project may go a long way toward enhancing Vanadzor’s tourism potential.

The Prime Minister next went to Lori Marz administration where he met with the local authorities and businesses to discuss issues related to economic and business development and attraction of new investments. Addressing those present, the Premier said he wanted to identify the outstanding issues, understand how the Government could help local businesses and discuss specific projects.

“I do believe that the potential available in Lori Marz is used insufficiently. Formerly Vanadzor was a large industrial hub. We are now trying to restore the industrial potential in Lori Marz. Our goal is to use our resources to gradually reinstate Vanadzor in its activities, and I feel we will succeed. The Government seeks to implement local projects in the provinces, districts and cities to address the problem of unemployment,” Hovik Abrahamyan said.

During the exchange of opinions that followed, the representatives of local businesses voiced proposals regarding investment in construction, agriculture, industry and other sectors. The Prime Minister instructed the relevant departments to discuss the proposals and suggest a relevant implementation toolkit.
