PM addresses issues of public concern

A Cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

Opening the meeting, the Prime Minister referred to two important issues: first, a few days ago the Government discussed PIU performance in the first quarter of 2015.

“Over many years, multibillion-dollar investments have been carried out in the country through project implementation units. Meanwhile, corruption scandals and shortfalls are talked about more than the achievements.

At the latest meeting, I strictly warned the PIU supervisors to refrain from any act of corruption. Otherwise, not only will such officials be dismissed, but I will personally see that those responsible for mismanagement be inflicted severe punishments,”
the Prime Minister said.

The next question addressed by the Prime Minister was the situation in Syria. “A few days ago, the media referred to the rocket shelling in Sulaymaniyah district of Aleppo which unfortunately affected Armenians. At that time, the alarm was sounded out on the need to evacuate children and pupils from the war zone. In response, I noted that the Government is prepared to provide all the necessary conditions in order to host and accommodate children from Aleppo,” Hovik Abrahamyan reminded.

The Government approved a bill on the recycling of wastes resulting from the production and processing of Voghchi, Pkhrut, Artsvanik and Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine JSC dumps. The bill will result in an investment program on the recycling of tailings dumps at Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine CJSC.

About 1000 permanent and 500 temporary jobs will be available as early as in first stage. In addition, several economic and environmental issues will be resolved.

Royal Stoneware LLC was accorded a three-year VAT deferment for imported goods to a total cost of over AMD200 million. The company plans to build a factory for the production of high-quality ceramic ware and dinnerware with an investment of about AMD1.09 billion.

At the end of the meeting, highlighting the importance of Last Bell-dedicated ceremonies due on May 22, the Premier urged the members of his government to visit educational institutions and congratulate school-leavers on the occasion.

The Head of Government advised that a Prime Minister-led government delegation was due to leave for the NKR to attend the May 8-9 festivities. Other members of government will attend the festive events to be held in Yerevan.

In conclusion, Hovik Abrahamyan congratulated the veterans on the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic, wishing them good luck and robust health.
