Men, Women Equality Affairs Council Holds Meeting

Chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, the Men and Women Equality Affairs Council met today in the Office of Government.

To begin with, the meeting heard a report on the results of the program referred to as “59th session of UN Commission on Status of Women in New York," and the political Declaration adopted at the session.

It was noted that the session was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Program of Action in order to assess the achievements and problems, as well as to discuss the upcoming steps.

The political Declaration adopted at the session stated that until the year 2030 all nations should pursue a comprehensive policy to achieve equality between men and women. The Council took note of the report.

The meeting next discussed the outcome of the current strategic plan (2011-2015) on men and women equality in the Republic of Armenia. In this connection, the participants exchanged views, touching upon the need for developing a new strategy.

The meeting reviewed the results of “Best Businesswoman” Prime Minister’s Award in 2015. The Council approved the composition and the statute of the Working Group established to streamline the ongoing activities of the Council on Men and Women Equality Affairs.

Summing up the discussion, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of women’s participation in public administration and local self-government bodies, as well as the creation of favorable conditions for businesswomen. Stressing the need for consistency in pursuit of the aforementioned programs, the Premier issued appropriate instructions.
