Our country, economy should be ready for any scenario

A Cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

To offset the recent global economic developments’ negative impact on Armenia’s economy, the Government has taken specific steps to attract foreign currency.

Considering today’s favorable environment in the international financial markets, which may be precarious, the Government deemed it expedient to issue foreign currency bonds.

Describing the recent years’ global economic turmoil as an economic war, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan stressed that our country should be ready for any scenario.

Following Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, Armenia’s and EEU’s technical regulations will be applicable in the Republic of Armenia. To this end, the Government has appointed supervisory authorities to ensure proper control over the compliance with their provisions. The meeting decided that the Ministry of Agriculture-affiliated Food Safety Service and the Ministry of Economy-affiliated Market Surveillance Inspectorate shall act as such authorities.

Based on Armenia’s legislation and the relevant treaties adopted by the Customs Union, the Ministry of Economy was recognized as the Government’s authorized entity to issue one-time licenses for the export and import to and from third countries of precious metals, scrap and waste of precious metals and precious metal-bearing minerals and concentrates.

Amending a precious decision and invalidating another decree, the Government addressed a number of issues encountered in the system of public procurements. In particular, the meeting established that invitations to participate in a tender should be sent to at least three companies and posted on the www.gnumner.am website, providing the possibility of holding expedited tenders on competitive terms for procurements under AMD20mn. The new rules set restrictions over the buyer’s possibility to terminate an agreement with non-compliant suppliers without recourse to sanctions and so on.

Approving the protocol on the competitive procurement of 60 mg diabeton (gliklazid), the Executive decided that in the period from 2015 to 2019, the Ministry of Healthcare should purchase the aforementioned drug from a French company at the cost of 0.06 euros per 1 tablet (42.33 lb), which is much cheaper than the price paid in previous years.

The meeting established a coordinating committee to organize the 6th Pan-Armenian Summer Games on August 2-13, 2015.
