Hovik Abrahamyan Chairs ASEU Council Meeting

Armenia State Economics University (ASEU) Board Chairman, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan chaired today a university council meeting.

ASEU Rector Koryun Atoyan reported on the University’s academic and financial performance in 2014 and 2015 draft budget. The Rector referred to the organization and improvement of the educational process, the students’ academic achievements and research activities, exchange of know-how, public relations, as well as the internationalization of the University and its economic activities.

According to Koryun Atoyan, the University’s main task has been and continues to be the formation of competitive and highly qualified specialists. The reforms underway in the University are aimed at increasing the effectiveness of education, promoting international cooperation, developing and expanding interaction with foreign universities. The report also featured the main indicators specified in the 2015 draft budget.

The council first discussed and approved the University’s educational, scientific and financial activities in 2014, the 2014 budget performance and the estimated budget for 2015.

Summarizing the meeting, Hovik Abrahamyan noted that in 2014 the university administration and staff did everything to comply with the tasks set before the institution, as well as to meet today’s challenges and provide for development.

“University Rector, Professor Koryun Atoyan’s comprehensive report proves once again that the reform launched under the “We are changing" motto is moving forward steadily. Last year the University boasted tangible achievements in almost all areas of activity. The University’s welfare policy has a targeted bias: the faculty and the staff have been offered health insurance for the second year in a row, progressive students from vulnerable families receive scholarships, and salaries rose by 10 percent,” the Prime Minister said.

According to the Head of Government, the opening of the British business school was an important step on the way to ASEU internationalization. The University is successfully implementing the Tempus project.

Hovik Abrahamyan believes that the aforementioned achievements will promote significantly ASEU’s competitiveness in the international arena. The Prime Minister said the research activities have gained a new relish in the University.

“Amber Research Center has initiated a new series of studies on the topics suggested by line ministries under my instructions. I am convinced that this initiative may enhance the quality of research in the University and its reputation," Hovik Abrahamyan comc;uded.

The Premier emphasized that reconstruction and modernization continue to be a priority to the University. 3 lounges and about 6 dozen classrooms have already been overhauled in a bid to enhance the institution’s overall competitiveness.

The Prime Minister underscored that the Government keeps in spotlight the continuous improvement and modernization of the educational system in Armenia. In this context, Hovik Abrahamyan pointed out that the quality of education has been upgraded in the period under review.

Summing up his remarks, the Premier urged the university administration and the faculty to make every effort to record new achievements and successes.
