Hovik Abrahamyan: Numerous programs are implemented to introduce modern innovation infrastructure in Armenia





Attended by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, the 2nd innovative business forum kicked off in Dilijan.

Welcoming the organizers and participants of the forum on behalf of the Government and himself, the Prime Minister said that in Armenia, the development of a national innovation system is one of the priorities of the Government and is always in spotlight.

According to Hovik Abrahamyan, the improvement of education-science-economy communication mechanisms, the stimulation of the economic demand for the results of scientific research and innovation and the enhancement of international cooperation in this area are comprehensively represented in the government program.

“In today’s world it is difficult to overestimate the role of information technology in the growth of technological innovation and increased productivity, the formation knowledge-based economy. In this area, our achievements inspire confidence that in the near future Armenia can become a leading country in the region,” Hovik Abrahamyan said.

According to the Prime Minister, currently implemented are numerous long-term programs that focus on the formation and development of state-of-the-art innovation infrastructures in Armenia - research, educational centers, industrial parks, laboratories, accelerators - the introduction of financial infrastructure stimulating progress in information technology, in particular, the provision of effective operation of the venture fund and grants to co-finance the development of innovations.

“Today it is difficult to imagine any sphere of social relations, economics, science, where high technology is not crucial. While implementing reforms in different fields it is a must to take into account the solutions and products proposed in the technological sphere, but through which we can increase productivity and competitiveness,” the head of government said.

The Prime Minister said that the forum provides ample opportunity for the participants to become familiar with international experience in the application of information and communication technologies in business that will stimulate the processes aimed at the conquest of new markets, ensuring increased sales, as well as a sharp increase in the quality of service and products.

Hovik Abrahamyan expressed confidence that through such forums the dialogue between the State and the private sector and the partnership provides the foundation for economic development and improving the socio-economic situation of the country. Such activities, according to the Prime Minister, are also important in terms of the spread of new technologies, exchange of experiences, promoting cooperation in the business environment, as well as discussion of problems encountered in the field and assess the possibilities to counter the existing challenges.

The Innovative Business Forum is held under the motto “2018 - Armenia among the 20 most innovative countries” and is devoted to the problems of technological education and entrepreneurship.

The agenda of the forum features discussion of future work required from the viewpoints of general education and higher education, entrepreneurship, legislation and infrastructure.

The purpose of the forum is to develop through discussion target areas and actions required for innovative development of Armenia, which will be put on the agenda of the Government, private sector and international organizations.
