Government will not make any move, which may affect adversely pregnant women



A Cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

Before discussing the issues on the agenda, the Prime Minister presented the traditional rating of the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation, under which Armenia has improved its position by four points from 49 to 45.

“In the indicator of taxes alone, we have advanced from 73 to 41, and here a significant role was played by the introduction and dissemination of the electronic payment system,” - said Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, urging the ministers to intensify activities in the direction of improving the rating indicators need to submit the results of the public. The Prime Minister praised the role of domestic producers, stressing the importance of creating opportunities for the manifestation of this role and support the home producer.

Referring to the amendments to the law “On temporary disability” and “On State Allowances,” which was planned to reduce the benefits paid to working women on maternity leave and unemployed pregnant women allowances equal to the minimum wage, Hovik Abrahamyan said: “As a result of numerous discussions it became clear that on the question, really, there is discontent. I think that while developing in the draft of this law we must do everything to ensure that no pregnant working woman be affected. Accept it as a basis. "

Turning to the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, the Prime Minister continued: “The issue is being discussed on numerous platforms; it is of utmost concern to society who needs to know that the Government will not make any move, which may affect pregnant women. The principle of the project should be as follows – no pregnant worker should suffer.”

The meeting discussed 6 legislative initiatives, the drafts of which and the findings of the Government will be presented to the National Assembly in the prescribed manner in order to clarify the scope of a number of procedures of agriculture concerning membership in the EEC.

Taking as a basis the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of the People’s Republic of China on economic and technological cooperation, the Government adopted a decree on construction in Yerevan of a school with advanced study of the Chinese language, providing to the Chinese side a relevant site.

An agreement on the construction of the school was reached during a meeting between the President of the Republic of Armenia and the President of China, held in 2010.

The Government approved the fourth joint progress report on Armenia’s compliance with the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. The meeting passed about 50 resolutions relating to social affairs, the economy and communities.
