Komitas Museum To Open by Yearend

A Cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

The Government decided to set up a Museum of Komitas, established that the object of this State organization is gathering, studying, preserving and promoting pieces related to the heritage and life, activity and creativity of the great Armenian composer, stimulating the preservation and reproduction of musical and performing arts traditions, creating favorable conditions for the development of the creative potential of young people in national, folk, classical and contemporary music.

Notwithstanding the invaluable contribution of Komitas, his creative legacy and personal possessions are to this day kept in the archives and repositories of different organizations: in the Museum of Literature and Arts after Charents and the Institute of Art of NAS.

On May 30, 2013, at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Hayastan all-Armenian Fund the President made a proposal to establish a Museum of Komitas. The Museum is built on the former site of the Palace of Culture in Komitas Park, which was offered to the Government of Armenia with the right of use by Hayastan Fund.

The cost of construction is ensured by Pyunik pan-Armenian human resource development Foundation with the support of the Syrian Armenian philanthropist Gabriel Jemberjian. The architect of the building is Arthur Meschian.

The construction is scheduled to be completed this year. This initiative is one of the priorities in the sphere of culture in 2014 and is considered important also because this year we are marking the 145th birth anniversary of Komitas. In addition, 2014 is declared the year of the great composer.

The Government decided to extend the term of the customs regime for the goods worth over 200 million drams imported by Gloria clothing factory of Vanadzor and the Greenhouse Company, extended respectively until August 25 and July 10, 2017.

Gloria is working in the tolling regime, commissioned by Surtees, an Italian firm, which provides services for sewing and supplying all products to the EU countries. The company plays a significant role in the development of Lori Marz: 90 percent of factory workers are women.

Greenhouse is planning to build a hothouse area of 30 hectares in Armavir Marz, equipping it with modern equipment. They will invest about 8.1 billion drams; starting 2015 their annual output will reach the mark of 1.72 billion drams to be mostly exported toward the CIS countries and the EU.

The Government provided 5 million drams to the Committee Labor Veterans of Armenia to provide social assistance to veterans. Another 6 million drams were made available to provide them with subsidized vouchers spa treatment.

Due to the situation in Syria, the Ministry of Education cannot implement a program of Armenian language teaching at the University of Aleppo, therefore the sum of about 5 million drams intended for said program by the decision of the Government will be used for the renewal from this September of Armenian Language, Armenian Literature and History courses at the Charles University in Prague.
