Human rights protection national strategy action plan kicks off, attended by Prime Minister

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan attended the launch of the action plan of the national strategy for the protection of human rights.

The head of government addressed the event, stating in part, “It would be hard to realize nowadays the establishment and development of a State’s legal system, as well as the effective organization of public institutions in the absence of democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms. From the perspective of development of guarantees for the protection of human rights, crucial was the President-approved national strategy for the protection of human rights, which was adopted in 2012. It can be considered an essential tool for implementing a unified and coordinated policy in the field of protection of human rights, which aims at ensuring full compliance with those Constitution-stipulated commitments that our country has assumed under international treaties.”

The Premier thanked all those actively involved in the development of the program, including the representatives of public institutions, international organizations and civil society.

As the Prime Minister stated, through efficient joint efforts, the Government approved an action plan for the national strategy on February 27, 2014, which sets out a number of activities related to different government agencies.

“We believe this program to be the key to securing human rights guarantees in the Republic of Armenia. Dated to the launch of the national human rights protection strategy action plan, today’s event is emblematic as it highlights our political will to fully implement the program and states our readiness for coordinated human rights-targeted actions under a consolidated document,” Hovik Abrahamyan noted.

Congratulating the participants, the head of government expressed confidence that the program will go a long way toward building a system of reliable guarantees for the protection of human rights in our country.
