Armenian Social Investment Fund’s Development Strategy Discussed






Armenian Social Investment Fund board of trustees held a regular meeting today at the Government office, chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.

The Fund's executive director Ashot Kirakosyan reported on the activities carried out in 2013 and introduced the budget for 2014. He noted that the current works in the communities are carried out within the framework of the 3rd additional financial funding, which is set to be completed in 2014. According to Ashot Kirakosyan, the Fund implemented infrastructure repairs and re-equipment of schools and community centers in 2013. In particular, 283 infrastructure projects have been carried out in the country's 153 communities, 8 projects are in design phase and contractors selection process, and another 25 projects are under construction. 42 percent of the completed projects refers to public and vocational schools, 29 percent to community and cultural centers of rural settlements. The number of beneficiaries is 1,47 million, the average share of one beneficiary is AMD 11 000. The country's 805 educational institutions were provided with 57051 units of school furniture, 56 community and cultural centers with 15179, 21, and 21 kindergartens with 3421 units of furniture. 515 representatives of 105 regional communities were retrained in the fields of financial management, budgeting, tax and property management.

AMD 1,67 billion was invested in 295 projects in the name of communities within the framework of the Fund's 3rd project, 64 percent of which was donated by international organizations and beneficiaries. AMD 70 million was allocated by local businessmen.

The Board approved the Fund’s 2013 Activity Report and 2014 budget.

The board members were introduced to the Fund's development strategy. They discussed the need for fundamental changes and development, as well as issues related to strategic objectives, principles and directions.

Summarizing the meeting, Prime Minister Sargsyan gave recommendations to the heads of concerned departments on amending and discussing the proposals submitted at working group discussions.
