Jubilee Events Due On Hovhannes Chekijyan 85 Birth Anniversary









Chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the Office of Government hosted a meeting of the jubilee commission on celebration of 85th birth anniversary of notorious Armenian conductor, Armenia State Academic Choir Artistic Director and Chief Conductor, USSR People's Artist Hovhannes Chekijyan.

The meeting discussed anniversary events to kick off in the coming days and to take place next year. In particular, a gala concert was said due as early as this December 23 with the participation of the State Academic Choir of Armenia, the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra and soloists at Aram Khachaturian concert hall.

The Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan will host another jubilee concert in 2014, followed by an Erebuni Historical-Archeological Museum-hosted honoring event. Involving different choirs and some 800 musicians, Armenia State anthem and Erebuni –Yerevan Choral composition will be performed next simmer in Yerevan to render tribute to the famous Maestro.

In the course of 2014, a series of jubilee symposia will be held along with a joint concert involving Diaspora choirs. Supported by the Government, a book will be published, entitled “Hovhannes Chekijyan,” “Hovhannes Chekijyan” film will be presented to the public and a classical music concert will be organized, dedicated to the Maestro.

Finally, a book exhibition will be opened at the Avetik Isahakyan Central Library followed by a variety of TV shows on the great artist. A scholarship will be established for the students of the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan.
