Tigran Sargsyan: Foreign Language Teaching To Be High Priority
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan was hosted at Tekeyan Cultural Center to meet with a group of teachers who have undergone training in Russian language centers.
Highlighting teacher training as an important tool for promoting the command of the Russian language at school, Tigran Sargsyan noted, “We can see language skills significantly improve staff performance in public institutions. Instead, it appears that if a person speaks just one language, he or she can have serious problems at work. In a rapidly changing and shrinking world contacts are essential, especially to small nations, because the ingoing integration processes raise the level of our economy and society.”
According to Tigran Sargsyan, knowledge of at least two foreign languages is becoming a must in European countries due to intensifying cross-country contacts.
Noting that the problem is relevant to Armenia, Tigran Sargsyan stated on part, “The teaching of foreign languages is a high priority for us, because in this way we can ensure our country’s progress. Teacher training is just the case, since your practice and the new methods will undoubtedly help us improve language level in schools. The Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan is pursuing this purpose as they have for a while now been paying greater attention to this very problem in their programs.”
Some 137 teachers have attended training courses in Russian language from all regions of the Republic. The courses were conducted by experts from the State Russian Language Institute after Pushkin.
