Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan’s Working Visit To St Petersburg Starts

On September 29, a Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan-led government delegation arrived in St Petersburg for a 3-day working visit.

Accompanied by the Minister of Culture of Armenia, the head of government visited several cultural centers of Russia’s northern capital. Tigran Sarkisian first visited St. Isaac’s Cathedral to learn of its history and watch the artifacts on display. Built as early as in 1818-1858 on an area of about four thousand square meters, the Cathedral is a museum now. It is considered to be one of the most famous cathedrals of Russia, which stores the best collection of Russian monumental painting of the 19th century.

The Prime Minister next called at the Hermitage, walked around the exhibition halls which represent the history and culture of Armenia. There are various exhibits dating back to the kingdom of Urartu, cross-stones from Ani and several objects found during excavations in Karmir Blur.

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended the opening of an exhibition of photographs by famous Russian ethnographer Miller, which presents everyday life of Western Armenians in the early 20th century, including the population of Van. Consisting of about 60 photographs, the collection of photographs was taken out of Western Armenia in the spring of 1915. It is planned to publish a rich collection of Miller’s works in a single album. It was also agreed that next year the exhibition will be on display in Armenia.

The Armenian delegation was also introduced to the exhibits relating to the peoples of Trans Caucasus. The Armenian collection features costumes, cards, vintage items, which represent the life, culture and history of the Armenians of Western Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, including Shushi.

Tigran Sargsyan visited the Armenian Church of St. Catherine in St Petersburg.

On October 1, chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Maxim Sokolov, the 15th session of the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation will be held at the Constantine Palace.
