PM Calls At AREAL Linear Accelerator Lab

Chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the Candle Project Coordinating Council met today at the headquarters of the Candle Accelerator Research Institute.

Before proceeding to the agenda, the Premier toured the Institute getting acquainted with the first phase of the candle project – the construction of AREAL Advanced Research Electronic Accelerator Laboratory.

Reporting progress in AREAL linear accelerator and infrastructure installation-startup process, Candle Foundation executive director Vasily Tsakanov advised that diagnostic equipment was acquired last December. A recently formed international committee, consisting of leading European and U.S. experts, will discuss progress and problems at its meeting of July 15-17, 2013 to draft a reference report for research centers worldwide.

The Council took note of State Science Committee President Samvel Haroutunyan’s report on Candle Project activities and future plans. Concerning international cooperation, he evoked the possibility of getting the Candle and Research Technological University projects included in the European Union’s Horizon – 2020 program.
