PM Welcomes ECHR President

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received President of the European Court of Human Rights Dean Spielmann.

Welcoming Mr. Spielmann’s visit to Armenia, the Premier expressed hope that it would contribute to the development of bilateral cooperation.

“Many legislative changes have been made in our country based on ECHR rulings, which exposed our legislative gaps. Proceeding from this point of view, we attach great importance to bilateral cooperation,” the Prime Minister noted.

Tigran Sargsyan said Armenia has an extended reform agenda. Tangible progress has been made toward the formation of civil society, which is acknowledged by the opposition as well.

Stressing the need to further the dialogue with Armenia, Dean Spielmann wished it could be raised to a new level during his tenure of office.

The parties went on to discuss establishment of a strong foundation for human rights in Armenia, judiciary reform and issues related to ECHR-processed cases.
