Passenger Traffic Being Improved

A Cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.

Invalidating an earlier decision, the Government approved a licensing procedure and a license form for taxi-borne passenger traffic in Armenia.

The document seeks to streamline the applicable regulatory framework, provide a facilitated environment for startup businesses. Introduce the “one-stop-shop” principles, reduce unnecessary administration and documentation. The private sector is expected to earn over 1.6 billion drams in annual savings.

“We are thereby offering AMD1.5 billion in annual savings to the private sector so that they could work in a more comfortable environment. They will be spared the need to pay for yellow numbers as the State undertakes to cover the cost of registration. Licenses from now on will be made available within 5 days instead of 30. People will no longer be required to get to Yerevan in order to get a license. We are going to eliminate give up a series of unnecessary checks which formally existed, but were not exercised as matter of fact. What matters most is that the reform chiefly affects the most vulnerable layer of the population,” the Prime Minister said.

The government made redistribution in the 2013 State budget to allocate funds to the Ministry of Urban Development with a view to modernizing the draft development plan for Lake Sevan’s water basin and specifying Sevan’s direct impact zone.

Amending a previous decision, the government decided that the contracts concerning those State- and community-owned plots land leased or alienated under Republic of Armenia Land Code Article 60 may be extended until December 31, 2030 to the benefit of their current users.

The decision does not apply to Sevan National Park-secured areas. Nevertheless, as the Prime Minister noted: “We must think about other areas as well in addition to Sevan National Park. Why should we limit ourselves to Sevan National Park and ignore the rest of our protected zones?” Tigran Sargsyan ordered to take up the matter within the next couple of days and, if necessary, other protected areas are also included in the decision.

The Executive approved 3 draft presidential decrees concerning the establishment of embassies in three countries with a key position in their respective regions. Firstly, it is the Kingdom of Sweden, the diplomatic relations with which have been on the upgrade over the last 7-8 years, especially considering that Sweden is the first and only Scandinavian country to have adopted a resolution on the Armenian Genocide. Secondly, it is the United States of Mexico that will enable our country to reach out the countries in South America, northern and north-western regions of Central America and the Caribbean basin. The third country is the Republic of Indonesia which is located in South-East Asia which in turn is one of the most dynamically developing regions of the world.

The government decided to disburse AMD20.5 million from its reserve fund to the Ministry of Healthcare to cover the cost of Paruyr Hairikyan’s medical treatment abroad who ran for presidency in the latest presidential election.
