Tigran Sargsyan Gets Acquainted With New Medical Center In Vanadzor, Production Facility In Aragatsotn Marz

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan visited Lori and Aragatsotn marzes.

The Prime Minister first visited Vanadzor, where he familiarized himself with the conditions of the existing hospital and the programs of the new medical complex. It will be located next to the operating hospital, which is already selected by the municipality of Vanadzor.

Talks are underway with the World Bank for credit a facility of USD 8-10mn to finance the construction of a new medical complex. The complex shall provide surgical, therapeutic, gynecological, obstetric services. Equipped with modern facilities, the complex will offer 190 beds to be increased in the future.

Tigran Sargsyan next visited Golden Grape Armas Ltd, operational in Aragatsotn region since 2009, to get acquainted with its ongoing investment programs. The company intends to process grapes and produce wine and brandy on an area of 180 hectares.

To this end, the Government of Armenia accorded a three-year VAT holiday on imported equipment in 2010.

The entire area has been fenced already, 30 pieces of agricultural equipment and machinery, as well as some 400,000 vines and 7,500 fruit trees have been purchased under the investment program. Italian experts have completed exterior decorations and landscaping work, including the construction of warehouses and garages.

To organize production and acquire new equipment, Golden Grape Armas has made an investment of AMD 6.6 billion, which will mainly be used to purchase new equipment of Italian and American manufacture to process 6000 tons of grapes annually.

At the preliminary stage of production, up to 3,000 tons of grapes are expected to be harvested a year in order to produce about 4,200 liters of wine and 1850 liters of raw brandy. At the initial stage, it will be possible to produce about 560,000 bottles of wine and 740,000 bottles of brandy. The company plans to sell its products in the U.S., the CIS and the EU.

The company suffered a lot from torrential rains and a hurricane in July 2011. Efforts are underway to eliminate the consequences.

The program was meant to kick off in 2011, but due to the aforementioned problems, the dates are being finalized.
