Old Yerevan Project To Be Implemented

A Cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.

The Executive authorized the Mayor of Yerevan to conclude on behalf of the Republic of Armenia corresponding arrangements with EMC and Glendale Hills closed joint stock companies and Serge - Agopig-Der-Sahaguyan LLC specifying the rights and obligations of the State and the developer stemming from the alienation of property at the site enclosed by arami, Byuzand and Koghbatsi streets.

The agreements shall become effective upon entry into force of the government decree on acknowledgement of the aforementioned site as one of prevailing public interest.

No later than three years after that date, the kiosks and stalls installed by Kentron Landscaping CJSC in the park located at Mashtots Avenue 22/1 shall be dismantled to ensure that the Old Yerevan urban development project is implemented.

After the agreements are signed, it will be possible to recognize the site as of prevailing public interest and recreate an aesthetic urban environment by moving away all affected historical and cultural monuments. Since this issue had been given a political resonance, the Prime Minister gave some clarification thereon.

The government amended a previous decree and called off two others in order to possibly simplify the procedure established for State registration of motor-vehicles. The amendment invalidates those provisions concerning the availability of the mandatory insurance contract and coupon, as well as the one on the possibility of suspended registration.

The government came up with a legislative initiative, approving and submitting to the National Assembly the amended bill on mandatory vehicle insurance and the Code on Administrative Offences.

Considering the importance of Garni Geophysics Observatory in terms of seismic risk assessment, situation analysis and seismic protection in general, the government took it back and offered for free, unlimited use to the Seismic Protection Western Service SNCO under the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The meeting next endorsed the program and a timetable for furthering the integration of European and Armenian educational systems.

The government backed the proposal on signing an agreement on establishment of trade representations between the governments of Armenia and Ukraine.

The meeting went on to endorse the proposal on signing an agreement between the governments of Kuwait and the Republic of Armenia on allocating embassy sites on the basis of reciprocity.

In conclusion, the Executive approved the proposal on signing air communication agreements between the governments the Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Government of the Republic of Armenia.

The next cabinet sitting will be held in Kotayk Marz this March 29.
