Best Businesswomen, Community Heads To Get Prime Minister’s Awards

Chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, the Women’s Affairs Council by the Prime Minister met at the Office of Government.

Before proceeding to the agenda, the head of government congratulated the Council’s female members on International Women’s Day: “On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and myself, I offer my heartfelt congratulations on March 8, wishing to you such a tender love as may bless you with many years of happy life. You are a great asset to society, standing by the men’s side, helping us to overcome challenges and many of Armenia’s achievements are largely due to you.”

First Deputy Minister of Economy Karine Minasyan reported on the concept of the Prime Minister’s “Best Businesswoman” award. She advised that awards will go to best businesswomen, best female initiators, philanthropists and manufacturers in 4 different categories for outstanding achievements in different fields of activity.

The Council approved the concept and set March 12, 2012 as a deadline for the announcement of the competition. The award ceremony will take place on April 5, 2012.

The meeting next approved the concept of the “Best Community Head for Gender Issues” award. First Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration Vache Terteryan gave the details of the paper.

It was noted that in order to enhance the women’s role in making decisions on gender-related problems at local self-government and community levels, the Prime Minister’s award will be presented to those mayors and village heads having excelled in gender issues.

The meeting has also approved the composition of two tender committees. Council members discussed the possibility of cooperation with local and international organizations, as well as organizational issues concerning the format of award ceremonies.

Detailed information on the “Best businesswoman” and “Best community head for gender issues” awards can be obtained from the Government’s official website at http://www.gov.am/am/councils/reports/5/.
