Meeting With Russia Public Chamber Members

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received the delegation of Russia’s Public Chamber, led by Deputy Secretary of the Public Chamber Mikhail Ostrovsky. The delegation is in Armenia at the invitation of the Public Council of Armenia.

Welcoming the guests on behalf of the Armenian government, Tigran Sargsyan noted in part: “We are happy that productive relations are maintained by the public councils of our two countries. We closely follow the process as the Public Council is a new institute in Armenia.”

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the ongoing dialog at such a high level will promote development of new ideas on the strengthening of bilateral interaction and ties.

Thankful for a warm reception, Mikhail Ostrovsky advised that a trilateral cooperation arrangement is up between the respective structures of Armenia, Russia and Ukraine, which can be deemed as the first step on the way to launching the “Eurasian Consortium of Civil Society.”

Armenian Public Council Chair Vazgen Manukyan pointed out that a broad range of issues of mutual concern had been discussed with the Russian partners, including the shaping of civil society and the exposition in Moscow of 70 exhibits from the Armenian Genocide museum.

Views were exchanged on the outlook of civil society in the two countries. In this connection, Tigran Sargsyan highlighted the role of the middle class to be promoted by developing small and medium-sized entrepreneurship.

The Premier welcomed the signing of the aforementioned trilateral agreement, emphasizing that the given format of interaction can provide a solid platform for experience sharing and cooperation strengthening.
