2011 Best IT Manager Award-Winners Hosted In Government

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received the 3 winners of Best Information Technology (IT) Manager Annual Awards for 2011, back from a two-week training course in Stanford University (Stanford Executive Institute).

The event was attended by head of the awards committee Hovik Musayelyan, CEO of Synopsis Armenia and jury member, businessman and philanthropist Ralf Yirikyan.

Hailing the training course of Stanford University and sharing out their impressions, the guests said to have been introduced to the best management practices of leading U.S. companies.

Noting that the mastering of applied knowledge can lead to enhanced qualification of IT managers, they expressed willingness to transfer the skills and the know-how to other professionals in the IT industry.

They further advised that an arrangement was made during the course to hold an IT Start-Up Weekend in Yerevan this December. In conclusion, the newly trained managers briefed the Premier on their companies’ activity areas.

Stressing the importance of IT development in Armenia, the head of government noted in particular: “I’m pleased with your enthusiasm as it inspires us to continue endeavoring in this direction. The ever-growing scope and interest in IT expositions evidences that qualitative changes are taking place in this field.”

For his part, Hovik Musayelyan informed that the number of this year’s Armenian training course participants was the highest among the CIS countries, which testifies to the government’s thoughtfulness of IT managers’ professional skills.

Views were exchanged on the current status and trends of Armenia’s IT sphere.

The idea of holding Prime Minister-supported Information Technology Managers’ Annual Awards was born as early as 2 years ago, when Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan visited Synopsys Armenia Company. The competition aims to support Armenia’s IT sector through enhanced qualification of managers enabling them to attend training courses at the world’s most prestigious universities.

The initiative came from Synopsis Armenia and was sponsored by Viva-Cell MTS. The company provided 20 million drams for trainings held each year involving the winners of the contest.

Award winning managers shall not participate in at least the next 3 years of competition. This year’s award winners attended a 15-day-long training course at Stanford University (Stanford Executive Institute) with an aggregate fee of nearly USD 50 thousand.

The contest can be attended by any manager under 40 from such Armenia-registered companies as have a maximum of 50 staff.
