PM Welcomes Lithuanian Minister of Education and Science

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received a delegation led by Lithuanian Minister of Education and Science Gintaras Steponavichius.

Greeting the guests, the head of government stressed the importance of “Higher Education Financing” international two-day conference which provides a forum for exchange of views on higher education quality, financing mechanisms, ways of ensuring equality and equity for graduate students. Tigran Sargsyan noted in part: “It is a pleasure to co-chair the Bologna process together with Poland. We feel highly honored as we welcome foreign delegations to Armenia and discuss issues relating to education financing.”

Thanking the Prime Minister for reception, Gintaras Steponavichius said events like this help expand bilateral ties.

The parties went on to discuss prospects of developing cooperation in the sphere of education and science. In this context, Tigran Sargsyan dwelt on the educational reform underway in Armenia and the need for university certification. In turn, the Lithuanian Minister briefed the Premier on Lithuania’s reform expertise, the process of certification and education financing mechanisms.

With reference to the shared historical background, the interlocutors stressed the need for a change in Soviet-like way of thinking.

Gintaras Steponavichius assured of his country’s readiness to back Armenia on the way to European integration and reforms through experience sharing. Reminding that the Lithuanian Parliament acknowledged the 1915 Genocide of Armenians as early as in December, 2005, he said to have paid homage earlier today to Genocide victims at Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex of Yerevan.
