Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan Meets with Ukrainian and Austrian Prime Ministers

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan is having a number of meetings in the frame of his ongoing visit to Vienna where he is participating in the World Economic Forum.

Earlier today Tigran Sargsyan met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov. After the meeting, the head of the Armenian government told newsmen that a bilateral cooperation-related agenda had been discussed. Tigran Sargsyan said to have briefed his Ukrainian counterpart on recent developments in Armenia, as well as on our country’s economic position and outlook. The two prime ministers also talked about reforms in Ukraine.

Information has been exchanged on macro-economic indicators. The heads of government touched on bilateral economic cooperation and partnership ties within international organizations.

Tigran Sargsyan next met with Austrian Prime Minister Werner Faimann to discuss bilateral relationship-associated issues. They referred to Armenia’s economic priorities and those branches of interest to the governments from an interaction perspective. Information technologies, power engineering, mining and tourism were singled out as prospective areas of interaction. The parties talked about the need of having Austrian travel agents’ experience forwarded to Armenian operators and, in this context, looked at the possibility of bringing in tourists from Austria.

The Austrian Prime Minister said to be interested in economic reforms and the possibility of funneling Austrian capital into the financial sector of Armenia.

“We know Austria strong with quite a long experience of participation in commercial banks’ equity. This is why we suggested them to participate in the capital of Armenian banks, as well as to get involved in investment funds. Voluntary and mandatory funded pension funds will be operational in Armenia as of 2012 and 2014 respectively which means that the leading financial companies may be interested in coming to Armenia,” the head of the Armenian government said.

In conclusion, the two prime ministers referred to Armenian-Turkish relations. Werner Faimann was briefed on the Armenian-Turkish protocols and the regional developments, inclusive of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement.

Later on, after calling at the Armenian embassy in Austria, Tigran Sargsyan answered the questions of journalists.

On the sidelines of his ongoing visit, Prime Minister Sargsyan is also scheduled to meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban.
