Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attends opening of memorial tablet to Hrant Matevosyan

As part of jubilee events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Hrant Matevosyan, a memorial tablet was unveiled in front of the famous Armenian writer’s home on his birthday.

The event was attended by Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan who joined the writer’s granddaughter to inaugurate the sculptor Tigran Barseghyan-designed memorial.

The function at which pupils from the school after Hrant Matevosyan gave performances was attended by Matevosyan’s family, fellow-writers, intellectuals and art critics.

Speeches were delivered by Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction Rector Levon Tokmejyan and Armenian Writers’ Union President Levon Ananyan. The latter noted that as co-funded by the Government and Writers’ Union, the Hrant Matevosyan award has been administered for 5 years now. Felix Meloyan is this year’s prize-winner who made a valuable contribution by promoting the artistic legacy of the famous writer. The award was handed in by the Prime Minister himself.

Following the event, Tigran Sargsyan visited the home of Hrant Matevosyan to congratulate his family on the occasion.
