Farming efficiency agenda discussed




Chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, a consultative meeting was held today in the Office of Government to discuss a farming efficiency enhancement-related agenda. In attendance were the minister and the deputy ministers of agriculture, marz governors, Public Council members other stakeholders.

To begin with, the Prime Minister stressed that the meeting was dedicated to the 2011 spring sowing season.

Agenda-related reports were made by the deputy ministers of agriculture.

In particular, Deputy Minster of Agriculture Samvel Galstyan referred to the ongoing preparations for the spring sowing campaign. Reporting back the situation in crop areas and the reasons behind the shrinking stock of arable land, he touched upon the possibilities and the ways of making up for the lapse in the fall campaign. The speaker gave a detailed description of anti-rodent and consultancy activities.

The next to speak was First Deputy Minster of Agriculture Samvel Avetisyan| who gave an account of farm working capital replenishment-oriented efforts. Tigran Sargsyan ordered him to keep on reporting back on the developments in this field.

Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan reported on the status of settlements made by processing enterprises to the farmers for the procurements of agricultural products.

First Deputy Minster of Agriculture Samvel Avetisyan| introduced the key points of the draft concept note on farm consolidation efforts in Armenia. The draft was said to have been sent out to all marz governors. The Prime Ministers noted that any proposal on the matter should be submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Vardan Karapetyan spoke on the pace of grant-funded machinery distribution activities. The preparations for the 2011 irrigation campaign were detailed by the head of Territorial Administration Ministry’s State Water Management Committee Andranik Andreasyan.

Summing up the meeting, the head of government gave corresponding assignments to the heads of all the agencies concerned emphasizing the need for continued dialog between marz governors and the Ministry of Agriculture: “Agriculture stands high on this year’s agenda and, therefore, we should make every effort to provide for sustained growth in this area.”
