Tigran Sargsyan congratulates people of China on national holiday

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended today a gala reception devoted to the national holiday of the People’s Republic of China. Congratulating those present and the people of China, the head of government stated in part: “I am glad to have the opportunity of congratulating on behalf of the Government of Armenia all Chinese people on the national holiday - Day of Creation of the People’s Republic of China. On this festive occasion, I wish peace, happiness, well-being and prosperity the people of China.

The peoples of our two countries are tied up with strong bonds of friendship which may be characterized by high level of political mutual understanding and trust. Having such a reliable basis, we tend to develop and improve mutually advantageous cooperation in most various spheres.

In this respect, reciprocated high-level visits play an important role. The expansion of spheres of cooperation between our countries was the objective of the State visit of the President of the Republic Armenia to China which took place in the spring of this year. During the visit, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met with Head of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jiantao, attended Shanghai Expo – 2010, took part in the solemn ceremony of opening of the world exposition, and, in particular, visited the province of Shansi where he was present at the opening ceremony of Shansi – Nairit JV, an Armenian-Chinese enterprise which is a leader of realization of joint projects. Today we are striving to find new areas for a mutually advantageous cooperation and realization of joint initiatives.

An opportunity for revealing new horizons of cooperation was my recent visit to China during which I visited Beijing, Shanghai and the province of Sichuan.

In this connection, taking the opportunity, I would like to express my gratitude to the authorities of China for extremely warm and hearty welcome.

It is a pleasure to state that during the meetings held in your country readiness for multifaceted development of bilateral relations was expressed. Priority was given to mining industry, development of infrastructures, agriculture and high technologies. We have confirmed our interest in developing extensive cultural exchanges.

We witnessed those really huge changes taking place in China. For the past few decades, China has grown into the second largest economy of the world, recording impressive achievements in the sphere of social development. We can witness serious realizations which to my mind are landmark achievements not only for people of China, but also influence global political and economic processes.

Shanghai Expo - 2010 is both the symbol and the embodiment of these achievements. Due to this large-scale action Shanghai has become a global centre of gravity. The world exposition is not only a unique opportunity for intercultural dialog and mutual enrichment, but also a venue where new ideas and initiatives are coming to light.”
