Annual trade turnover between Armenia and Iran is expected to reach one billion dollars





Within his visit to Iran, the prime minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan and the vice president of Iran Mohammad-Reza Rahimi discussed issues about the further development of the economic cooperation at the October 25 meeting. During the meeting Tigran Sargsyan said, considering the fact that a meeting with such representative teams during Armenia and Iran was taking place for the first time, that it shows expansions and deepening between the two countries’ relations. The prime-minister also emphasized the importance of the cooperation in the fields such education, health and cattle, as well as the issue of building a slaughterhouse in Syunik. The executive chief of Armenia thanked Mohammad-Reza Rahimi for the assistance rendered to the Armenian community. The vice president of Iran also emphasized the importance of deepening the economic relations with Armenia, noting that it doesn’t meet the potential currently. He hoped that the situation will change in the nearest future. Currently Armenia performs four strategic programs with Iran; constructions of Iran-Armenia railway, third line of high-voltage power transmission and Araks HPP. The prime-minister of Armenia said that the current problem is the implementation and development of the new projects.
After the meeting with the vice president of Iran, Tigran Sargsyan had a meeting the minister of foreign affairs of Iran Manouchehr Mottaki, during which they discussed regional issues, about relations of Iran with its neighbors and about the nuclear projects.
The Iranian side made proposals, which will be discussed in details during the next session of the Armenian-Iranian intergovernmental commission.
Within his visit Tigran Sargsyan visited the spot where the new building of the Armenian embassy will be constructed, visited the current embassy, the Armenian Diocese of St. Sargis church in Tehran, where the Armenian delegation was met by the Diocese Vicar General Varazdat. Candle lighting has been done in the church, a wreath was put to the Armenian Genocide Memorial.
In the evening the Armenian delegation visited the “Ararat” sport complex, where the prime minister toured and observed the sport success of the youth of the Armenian community.
The meeting of the prime minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan with the president of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will take place today.
