The government keeps focus on the problems of displaced persons

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Rights of Displaced Persons Walter Kalin who is wrapping up his mission in Armenia.

Appreciating the assistance provided by UN agencies in coping with the problems of displaced persons, the head of government thanked Mr. Kalin for his tenure-long valuable efforts.

The government was said to have kept in focus the status of displaced persons in Armenia. In this context, Tigran Sargsyan stressed the need for giving them employment and shelters as soon as possible.

Thanking the Prime Minister for reception, Mr. Kalin said to have been introduced to the draft program of repatriation by Vice Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan last year in Geneva. Concurring with the Prime Minister in that all displaced persons should be provided not only with basic accommodation, but also with satisfactory living conditions, the UN official deemed it necessary to further amend and finalize the program. In return, Tigran Sargsyan said that the Vice Prime Minister will be told to keep on working on the paper in cooperation with corresponding UN agencies.

The parties also spoke about the conference of donor organization to be held early next year.
