Tigran Sargsyan welcomes Jans Wandel



Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received Deputy Director of UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS Countries, Head of Bratislava Regional Center of UNDP Jans Wamdel.

Greeting the guest, the Prime Minister expressed high opinion of UN Office activities in Armenia. Thanking the Prime Minister for reception, Mr. Wandel emphasized the 2010-2015 action plan of UNDP-GoA Cooperation Program is the best one in the region in respect of public governance efficiency enhancement.

The parties spoke about macroeconomic developments and forecasts. In this context, asked so by Mr. Wandel, Tigran Sargsyan briefed him on EU-Armenia cooperation priorities: signing of a deep and comprehensive free trade agreement, easing of entry visa requirements, implementation of national program-stipulated reforms under the European Neighborhood Policy, realization of joint projects in the energy sector. With reference to corruption and shadow economy-countering measures, Tigran Sargsyan advised that in an effort to enhance transparency in the activities of State functionaries, the National Assembly has adopted the law on public services in the first reading. The focus of harmonious territorial development was said be advanced in two main directions: decentralization and building the capacity of local self-government authorities.

The parties next looked into the possibility of furthering bilateral cooperation. The head of RA government made a point of using UN experts’ know-how and methodologies in implementing UNDP-supported programs in Armenia.
