Joint program implementation prospects discussed with the FAO Director General

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received UN Food and Agriculture Organization Director General Jacques Diouf.

Greeting the guest, Tigran Sargsyan highly valued the ongoing effective cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the FAO and went on to stress that Armenia was interested in its furtherance.

Down to joint programs ahead, the parties have focused on the production of agricultural inputs (seeds, pesticides), expansion of irrigation and storage capacity, development of corresponding marketing schemes.

The Prime Minister invited FAO experts to take part in the government-initiated public discussions over the concept of agricultural development. In this context, Jacques Diouf presented the global know-how available in this field.

The importance of decentralization-targeted complex rural development programs was emphasized on either side.

The parties have also referred to the proceedings of the 27th Europe and Central Asia regional conference of FAO, underway in Yerevan from May 10 to 14, 2010. The FAO Director General thanked the head of the Armenian government for proper organization of the forum.
