The Republic of Armenia anti-corruption council met in the Office of Government, chaired by council head, RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.

The council discussed and endorsed for government approval Armenia’s anti-corruption strategy and the action plan for the years 2009-1012, as well as the system of monitoring criteria for the anti-corruption strategy and the action plan.

A report on the draft 2009-2012 anti-corruption strategy and action plan was delivered by assistant to RA President, council member Gevorg Kostanyan,. The new anti-corruption strategy consists of 5 chapters. The paper is based on the following principles endorsed by the council; compliance with the obligations assumed under international treaties and agreements dealing with corruption, establishment of clear-cut benchmarks and assessment criteria for reducing corruption, civil society participation in the process of drafting, availability of a cohesive monitoring and evaluation system.

The process of drafting was backed by consultants from the local offices of the OSCE, UNDP, USAID and EU, experts from the Council of Europe, representatives from civil society and non-governmental organizations.
