RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan took part in the opening ceremony for the new building of the State Linguistics Institute after V. Bryussov in Yerevan. The Prime Minister walked round the building to appreciate firsthand the new facilities, called at the computer center and was shown over the reading room.
Tigran Sargsyan felicitated those present on a twofold holiday - the European Language Day and this housewarming function – as they are closely interrelated in mission. The head of government said in particular: “The modern world is peculiar in that it is shrinking rapidly, with interethnic contacts getting ever more intense.” According to the Prime Minister, this urges us to be more concerned about the mastering of languages as the outer world cannot be perceived without a good command of foreign languages.
The head of the executive further said that ethnic identity-related problems can be seen emerge every day as the evolution of nations makes it necessary for the small units to learn several foreign languages and remain faithful to their identity.
Education was said to be among the key targets of the Government as the 21st century will be the era of education and proficiency.
