RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan met with editors of regional newspapers.

The Prime Minister welcomed this initiative of the Armenian Union of Journalists. Chairwoman of the Union Asthik Gevorgyan thanked the Prime Minister for his openness to dialog with local media representatives. She stressed the need for activating mass media at the local level.

Media representatives briefed the Prime Minister on their concerns concerning the efficiency in the use of yearly subsidies, the establishment of a printing base, organized newspaper subscription, assistance from local self-government authorities. Tigran Sargsyan was asked about his government’s regional welfare programs. He was also suggested to call the attention of Armenia’s public television and central media on regional issues.

The head of the RA government pointed out that special emphasis should be given to regional media with a view to providing prompt response to local concerns. Enhanced local media efficiency was said to have been stipulated in the government’s program of balanced territorial development.
