RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received a delegation led by President of Russian Railways OJSC Vladimir Yakunin.

First, Mr. Yakunin conveyed greetings on behalf of Head of Russian Government Vladimir Putin. Then the parties went down to the meeting agenda and discussed a number of issues of mutual concern. To begin with, the head of the Russian delegation advised that an exhibition featuring railway service-related products of great market demand has been organized by the management of South Caucasian railroad and Armenian businessmen.

Next, the development of Armenian railways’ internal network and the performance of the concession contract were discussed. Rehabilitation work was said to be continued during this year. Mr. Yakunin assured that the financial and economic crisis cannot be an impediment to the fulfillment of planned activities.

Tigran Sargsyan noted that Armenia gives primary importance to the construction of Armenia-Iran railroad. A task force has already been set up involving experts from corresponding Armenian, Russian and Iranian agencies. The task force is scheduled to call a first meeting later this month to discuss both funding- and participation-related questions.

Tigran Sargsyan and Vladimir Yakunin highlighted the role of transport communications in the furtherance of strategic partnership ties between the two countries and agreed in that the development of the Armenian railways will henceforth be kept in focus on either side.
