The Governing Council of Millenium Challenge Account-Armenia SNCO met at the Office of Government, presided at by GC Chairman, RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.

The Council has discussed and approved a package of application and attached documents for an extraordinary disbursement, which includes the quarterly financial statements and a summary report.

MCA-Armenia Chief Executive Director Ara Hovsepyan advised that this quarter (April-June) the MCA-Armenia expects to be allocated additional USD 1,580,741 under the mentioned request. According to Mr. Hovsepyan, the extra disbursement will be used to finance the Rural Road Rehabilitation Project’s first-package activities stipulated in 6 different contracts signed in 2008. The speaker said work on 16 road links resumed early this April. A total of 272.9 km-long road sections will be repaired by June 30, 2010, as specified in the contractors’ time-table, with AMD 1.952 BN dram-worth of building activities to be carried out in April-May, 2009.

Upon ratification by the Governing Council chairman, the request for this extraordinary disbursement will be submitted to the MCC for approval.

The Council further discussed and endorsed the revised procurements plan, the draft contract on consulting services to ensure the conduct of corresponding surveys among individual and corporate water users in order to estimate the capacity building component of From Water-to-Market Activity of the MCA-Armenia program. In this connection, the head of the State Water Resource Management Committee was directed to hold another discussion within a weeks’ time and submit proposals concerning the draft contract, if necessary.

Other questions, too, have been discussed during the meeting.
