RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received a delegation led by U.S. Trade Department Vice-Secretary for Market Access and Matching Affairs David Bohigian.

The meeting agenda comprised discussion of questions relating to the betterment of Armenia's business environment, intellectual property protection policies, as well as tax and customs administration reforms, refund of VAT credits to tax payers and other issues of topical interest.

The Prime Minister mentioned that an eventual cooperation based on the expertise and approaches available and developed in these areas by the United States may be useful to Armenia by promoting as much the furtherance of bilateral ties.

David Bohigian said to be impressed by Armenia's economic achievements of recent years and went on to state his country's interest in the sustainability of these trends.

At the request of the Prime Minister, the U.S. Trade Department Vice-Secretary for Market Access and Matching Affairs presented the United States' experience in encouraging foreign investment and such activities as may be carried out in Armenia to this end. The parties have also referred to scientific collaboration, including the possibility of exchanging know-how in the field of innovations commercialization, regional development-related proposals, eventual U.S. assistance towards the achievement of the objectives set forth ahead of "Armenia- California" business forum to be held this September. The agenda of the forum was said to eventually include discussion of tourism, business services, pharmaceuticals and chemical industry development-related items.

Tigran Sargsyan briefed the guest on the terms of reference of the RA National Competitiveness Council as set up following the principle of State-private sector cooperation, the government's priorities, the pace and outlook for reform processes. The Head of RA Government and the U.S. Trade Department Vice-Secretary for Market Access and Matching Affairs also spoke of the status of the MCA-Armenia program and the steps to take by the Armenian government to ensure program continuity.
